We're under Mass media's control

The mass media has the huge influence on the society. Every day we receive information from the various sources of a broadcasting: newspapers, television, radio, cinema and the Internet. This information has both favorable influence and destroying. On the one hand, the function of the mass media has informative character that promotes expansion of our outlook, also the mass media participates in socialization of society, its role as a link with the outside world is indisputable. But on the other hand, the mass media influences harmful on the weak children's mentality, and society turns into a consumer society.

We trust own intuition, experience and knowledge too little. But we take on trust everything that the media broadcasts to us. The adverts on TV, billboards often define our choice upon purchase of the next goods. Often the advertising convinces that you need something for expression of own identity, as a result there is a "mainstream". The media participates in ours psychological education. Children early get acquainted with the scenes of violence and erotic character, certainly leaving a trail in the still weak minds. The mass media forms our ideals, values and mass opinion.

It seems to me that in the near future the complete control over thinking, described in George Orwell's novel "1984", is possible. The informative globalization is unavoidable.

Do you share my point of view? Could you give some examples of the media's influence according to your own experience?

  1. Thanks for your article, it's very interesting one. I comletely agree with your point of view. Mass media in our days has the huge influence on the society and on all of us. In fact, journalists can present us any news and information, and none of us can verify its authenticity. That's why it's very hard nowadays to believe anyone or anything.

  2. I absolutely agree with your opininon. Today mass media has a huge influence on people's mind. It conrols our minds. It creates our ideals, opinions and values. It is awful because we can't think independently. We can't analize and make the conclusions by ourselves. We pass on the information which have been instilled us.
But on the other point of view, mass media is a good thing because we can get to know about the situation in the world or get some useful informatin for us. The only one problem is the excess of information that's why people can't distinguish truth from falsehood.
I have my own example, everybody knows the brand "Apple". The gadgets of this brand are too expensive but the quality is perfect. People can buy other brands with the same quality at low prices but they prefer to buy "Apple" goods. Why? The main reason is because IT IS "APPLE". The implementators created a good advertisement and design that's why people bought it, buy it and will buy it. And I'm not the exeption)

  3. Thank you for this curious article. Actually, it's very mainstream to write about mainstream, but anyway we can't do anything about it. We can't reject the influence of mass-media upon us; on the other hand, we can't live in separation from any of the mass-media institutions.
My personal example of the mass-media influence would be books and music. Nowadays people tend to read and listen to what is trendy and popular. Like the Beatles. It's fashionable to pretend that you admire the rock'n'roll classics, but in fact most of the listeners would know only a few songs without plunging into the whole philosophy of their time and their music. Even more, sometimes people pretend to love them without loving at all! Is it good or bad? In my opinion, we lose something very important trying to catch up with the trends. Personal ideas are desperately needed, but instead we have mass-formed definitions and opinions. In any case, the individuality must not be lost, but it seems to me that our society is going to the facelessness.

  4. No doubt, mass-media is an important part of public life today. It affects our desires, our vision of the world, our political position, our clothes and what we eat. I completely agree with your opinion. I think, today's political situation is a good example. People go to rallies, destroy houses, even hate each other, but they don't know the real situation. All their knowledges are based on media reports. It's very sad.
